The car saw success in 1998, with several cars spread across several teams in both Europe and the United States. However, with the cancellation of the FIA GT-1 class, Panoz shifted its efforts towards Le Mans prototypes (although it has developed GT2 cars since that time, as well).

The car will come with a carbon fiber body, and in GT trim, buyers will have their choice between two V-8 engines with either 575 or 600 horsepower. Panoz has also announced that it will begin building street-legal versions of its race cars for well-heeled buyers.

Clearly, the company is still working to expand its name and brand recognition, although that remains difficult when the average starting price for an Esperante is in the six-figure range.
